Itineraries
Guide updated · timelines are planning tools, not live schedules
These plans are built for real Coral Coast logistics — live campground status, Exmouth vs Coral Bay bases, soft-sand 4WD honesty, marine conditions and self-sufficiency — not fantasy “every remote beach before lunch” checklists. Pick the plan that matches your group, then open it for a full timeline, packing notes, what to skip and decision gates. Print from any plan page, or grab the free Practical Planner anytime.
Every itinerary still defers to Explore Parks WA / DBCA for access, camping and alerts — verify on alerts.dbca.wa.gov.au the morning you go.
Start with status
If campgrounds are closed for rebuild, pick a town-base or closure-aware plan — not a freestyle beach night.
Match kit to ambition
No portable toilet, recovery gear or water contingency means no self-sufficient camping itinerary — full stop.
Protect recovery
Whale-shark mornings and soft-sand afternoons on the same day are a classic crash. Build rest into the plan.

2 full days on the ground (+ flight or drive buffer) · Moderate
Exmouth base · 2 days (high-volume path)
Best for: First-timers, fly-in visitors, anyone not fully remote-camping equipped
Base: Exmouth
Town-based plan while campgrounds rebuild: services, optional tours, and only attempt park coastal access if officially open. Honest default for most visitors right now — one clear marine product plus a reversible Day 2 decision.

2 days on the ground (plus Coral Coast drive legs) · Relaxed to moderate
Coral Bay base · 2 days (southern gateway)
Best for: Visitors already on a Coral Coast south→north or north→south drive
Base: Coral Bay
Southern services base for snorkel/tour products and potential southern coastal access when open. Smaller footprint than Exmouth — plan fuel carefully. No Carnarvon stay card required for this plan.

3–4 days (plus town load-out) · Self-sufficient / slow
Self-sufficient camping (when open) · 3–4 days
Best for: Experienced 4WD campers with full remote kit
Base: Exmouth or Coral Bay → designated campground
Designated campgrounds only, portable toilet, full water and recovery systems. Contingent on official reopening after cyclone rebuilds — do not treat as currently bookable without VERIFY. Intermediate path, not a beginner plan.

3 days on the ground (peak wildlife window) · Tour + recovery days
Whale shark season combo · Exmouth 3 days
Best for: Wildlife-first visitors in season
Base: Exmouth
Peak marine-wildlife window (roughly March–July for whale sharks — verify each year) with town base and optional park access only if open. Tours are the reliable wildlife product; remote camping is optional and status-dependent.

2–5 days flexible · Flexible
Closure-aware plan · town base only
Best for: Anyone visiting while rebuilds continue
Base: Exmouth and/or Coral Bay
Assume campgrounds closed until proven open. Still a full Coral Coast holiday via Exmouth / Coral Bay without forcing illegal or unsafe overnight stays — marine products, rest, and reversible sealed-road days.

4–7 days road-trip spine · Road-trip
Multi-day fuel & water logistics plan
Best for: Self-drive Coral Coast travellers
Base: Perth → Coral Bay → Exmouth (or reverse)
Planning skeleton for longer Coral Coast drives that may include Nyinggulara when open. Emphasises fuel, water, fatigue and contingency — not a fantasy “every beach” checklist.
