Southern access context (Cardabia–Ningaloo / Bruboodjoo)
Access · Exmouth & Coral Bay gateways · High-clearance 4WD; verify live road notes · Build contingency — sand and tide slow everything · Coral Bay corridor → coastal strip (verify live)
Guide updated · verify access status with Explore Parks WA / DBCA
Southern approaches use Cardabia–Ningaloo Road / Bruboodjoo access context. Coral Bay is the services gateway — not a substitute for in-park facilities (there are none).
- High-clearance 4WD; verify live road notes
- Build contingency — sand and tide slow everything
- Coral Bay corridor → coastal strip (verify live)
- Effort: hard
- Best for: Coral Bay-based groups heading toward southern campgrounds when open
Access, open/closed status, road conditions and marine conditions change — always verify with Explore Parks WA / DBCA (exploreparks.dbca.wa.gov.au) and alerts.dbca.wa.gov.au before you go.

Where you start
Coral Bay services → southern park approaches
Resupply fully in Coral Bay. VERIFY track and campground status before leaving.
How to get there
- Coral Bay is the southern services gateway for fuel, water, food and beds — resupply fully before any park approach.
- Southern approaches use Cardabia–Ningaloo Road / Bruboodjoo access context toward the coastal strip — VERIFY live road and campground status.
- High-clearance 4WD with low-range is the realistic baseline; soft sand and corrugations are normal.
- Carnarvon is useful regional logistics further south on long drives — not a primary stay card on this site’s Stay hub.
- No fuel or drinking water inside Nyinggulara — range and water math must be done in town.
- Screenshot alerts.dbca.wa.gov.au and official park notes offline before you leave mobile coverage.
- If you are not fully prepared, stay in Cape Range or the towns.
How to do it (step by step)
- Confirm which campgrounds (if any) are open — post-cyclone rebuild may still list all five as closed [VERIFY].
- Drive soft sand with recovery gear ready; air down when appropriate and reinflate for sealed returns.
- Do not freestyle campsites outside designated areas when camping is allowed — book official sites only.
- Build tide and heat contingency into every southern run; sand slows everything.
- Keep a hard turn-around time back to Coral Bay if overnight access is not confirmed.
- Never drive vegetated dunes or closed tracks for a “shortcut” to a beach photo.
- Pair southern access with South Lefroy Bay and related campground notes when sites reopen.
Coral Bay as the southern gateway
Coral Bay is smaller than Exmouth but closer to many southern coastal approaches when the strip is open. Think services gateway, not in-park facilities: once you leave town for Nyinggulara, you are on your own water, toilet and recovery systems.
Cardabia–Ningaloo / Bruboodjoo access context is the southern planning frame. Exact track conditions change with weather, tide and management decisions — live verification beats last year’s blog post.
Carnarvon can help on long Coral Coast drives for fuel and rest, but this guide does not card it as a primary stay hub for the park. Keep stay search cards on Exmouth and Coral Bay.
When southern campgrounds are open
Designated sites only. Book via official Park Stay / Explore Parks WA. Portable self-contained toilet is mandatory. Carry all drinking water; pack all waste out. Unpowered, no bins, no on-site emergency services.
Camping fees apply when open — [VERIFY] live per-person rates on the booking system. Official materials state no park entry fee for Nyinggulara; do not confuse that with camping fees.
Max-stay rules (school holiday vs non-holiday caps) need live confirmation. Popular beachfront sites have historically booked out on release days — plan logistics, not FOMO rule-breaking.
While rebuild continues
After Cyclone Narelle impacts, all five campgrounds — including southern-cluster sites — were listed as requiring full rebuild with radio/emergency-comms impacts. [VERIFY] live before any overnight assumption.
Closure-aware southern trips still work: Coral Bay beds, marine tours, shore snorkel where legal and safe near town products, and honest day access only if officially available.
If you are not fully prepared, stay in Cape Range or the towns. Southern soft sand does not become safer because the map looks shorter.

Extra tips
- Southern gateway tours and snorkel products are town-based — excellent while campgrounds rebuild.
- Pair with South Lefroy Bay notes when open; Coral Bay logistics suit the southern cluster.
- Fuel carefully: Coral Bay services are real but smaller than Exmouth — plan top-ups early in the day.
- Carry recovery boards and a PLB mindset even for “short” southern day runs.
- Do not treat social media pin-drops as permissions or current open status.
- If sand or tide looks wrong, reverse to Coral Bay and convert the day to a marine tour or beach walk near town.
